‘Hip’ ‘Hip’ Hooray!

16 Dec

Just got back from my ‘3 month’ appointment with my surgeon… And my right hip is extremely happy in its new home- and is now trusted to carry me about without the use of crutches! Hooray! 🙂

The conversation (after discussing how the new hip set the security system off at the airport last week) moved onto when the left hip could be replaced. It has been growing more painful and the x-rays show it could do with being replaced… So I asked what timescale the surgeon was thinking. Apparently it’s advisable to leave it six months between surgeries due to blood clot risks, but after a little further discussion, he has agreed it might be done sooner. I’ve been told to ring him in a week with a view to booking me in for surgery in the first week of February- just over 7 weeks away! Such good news! 😀 What’s even better is that contrary to what was said before about needing a ‘bespoke’ hip made for the left side as the femur is curved, a standard implant will probably fit. I now have one big smile on my face! If this all goes to plan, I may be heading for a birthday next year where I am pain free and don’t need to be using crutches- what a novelty! 🙂

So, that’s my good news for today!
